It all begins with Understanding “WHAT You Know”. What it is that you sell – at your job or in your company. Consider what it is it that you are charging for? You may think of it as your core competency.

The complement to this is Understanding “WHO You Know” How many people or companies you know of – who could benefit from what you know. Not necessarily by company name – but by industry category or geographic area – or profession.

By redefining What You’re Selling – Who You’re Selling It To – And the various ways you’re Getting Paid – you can move significantly further into the equation of being paid for your Knowledge – rather than your time. You want to consider defining what you do in such a way that you can sell it to the largest number of clients (or buyers) – at multiple locations and times – while avoiding the trap of being a “commodity provider”.
